The Weeping Warrior Reads the Gospel of Luke ten Times consecutively and Leaves his Thoughts Here
It's been a while since I've posted here, but Weeping Warrior has been busy.
The Gospel of Luke times Ten
Recently I've started to quest to read the Gospel of Luke, not just as a part as I continue reading the Bible in a year, but to read it through (not at one sitting however I might, as one of my ten times) and then read it and read it again for a total of ten times to get it inside of me and to learn what God can reveal by doing this.
I invite you to join me as I journal my thoughts here. You may be inspired to read Luke ten times in a row (if you read ahead a time or two or behind me a time or two, I won't mind) or just join me here to read my thoughts.
Here are my first thoughts. Thanks for being here and I invite you to leave your questions and comments below.
Gospel
of Luke Times Ten
It’s Saturday night about 5:30 my time and I’ve just
listened to a YouTube video of Pastor Allen Jackson speaking about Luke and how
the book could be read in the length it takes to watch a baseball game. I’ve
read through the Bible, audibly about 5 or more years now and have been truly
blessed and grown spiritually because of it so I’ve read through Luke before.
But he said something that made me think that I should read the entire book of
Luke through at one sitting, and several times.
So I thought that I would set out on this adventure
of reading through the Gospel of Luke ten times. It may take weeks but I am
committed to reading it from start to finish ten times in a row. I will seek
God’s deeper meaning of this Scripture and will be a blessing to bless others
with what I learn. I suspect that I will see things in my second, third, fourth
and fifth times through that I didn’t see in my earlier readings. I may even
ask God questions about things as I go through but my intention for going
through this Gospel of Luke adventure is to “force” myself to read Scripture
more. I plan to read from the same version mostly but I will also read several
different versions, and listen through the entire book of Luke as one of my ten
visits.
My hope for you, the reader, is that you will hear
of my experiences as I do this, feel the fun, and want to do the same yourself.
I am a “layman” so I’m not going to come across as a polished theologian. However, I know that there is much to glean
from reading a book about the Gospel of Luke from a writer who is. Going into
this I imagine that this will be like a diary or journal of sorts as to my
times of reading, the experiences in my day that mirrors what I’ve read because
I know that when we spend time with the Lord we can see clearer His handiwork
in our day.
I’m sure that something I share will edify you, the
reader at times but I equally know that God will reveal things to you that I
won’t see, miss or might not comment on because it was something that wasn’t
“new” to me and I just didn’t mention it. And I’m thinking I will comment on
the content so much but on how I was moved to do something because of my
reading.
My hope is that you will be inspired to join me in
reading the Gospel of Luke as a marathon (not a race), taking your time and
getting much from your investment, journal your thoughts and not be persuaded
by what my thoughts are on the content but just join me as if we are sharing in
a Bible study of Luke but going (and growing) through this Gospel consecutively
ten times. I’m sure that we won’t be walking step in step in our individual
adventure; I’ll be in chapter 2 of my third time and maybe you’ll just be
starting. That’s fine. I appreciate your company. You may read this and not go
through Luke ten times in a row but perhaps you just want to read about my
adventure and what happens to me on this path. That’s fine too. As long as I
document my experience and share my thoughts and what God reveals to me through
it all; and, you are blessed by His Word, then I think my assignment here will
be complete.
I’m excited. I’ve just put a place mark in my Bible
and set it on my night stand so I’ll read it in the morning during my quiet
time. I may not read Luke every morning, daily, and may read it several times
per day. My plan is to read it in its entirety, ten times and report to you my
findings.
